Many aspects to rural GP conference sponsorship

Southern Cross Primary Care is supporting rural general practice as a sponsor of the NZRGP Network Conference in Queenstown in March 2012.

The sponsorship is consistent with SCPC’s involvement in the College of GPs conference in September and the GP CME in June, to support best practice in the sector.

SCPC Chief Executive Officer, Victor Klap, says having a presence at these sector conferences has been a valuable way of assessing and socialising what kind of role GPs want SCPC to play in the primary care sector.

The Rural GP sponsorship has two further notable features:

  • SCPC’s sponsorship includes naming rights to the conference fun run which it is sharing with its partner practice, Queenstown Medical Centre.
  • Proceeds from the fun run will go to the Pat Farry Rural Health Education Trust, which was established in March 2010 to support the sustainability and quality of health services to rural communities. The late Pat Farry established Queenstown Medical Centre in the 1970s.

“It’s a significant bonus for us to be able to generate community profile for our partner practice in Queenstown, and to help raise funds for the Pat Farry Trust whose charitable objects are very compatible with those of our parent organisation the Southern Cross Health Trust.”
